Jackie's Story

The journey began fifteen (15) ago.  In September of 2000, I discovered a lump on the side of my left breast.  I went to my OB/GYN doctor and because the lump moved, he said, “It’s only fatty tissue, nothing to worry about”.  So, I waited for two (2) weeks and I decided to get a second (2nd) opinion. the technician was able to get a clear picture of the lump.  Immediately, I was sent to the surgery clinic and had a fine needle aspiration done, and to my surprise, I was told it was cancerous.

The surgeon came in and said; “You have breast cancer and we are going to remove your breast”.  The words he said were clear and precise; but, I couldn’t or wouldn’t comprehend.  His words were like a sword cutting to the very core of my being.

The news was so devastating three (3) weeks later I had a total radical mastectomy of the left breast. I knew it had to be done to save my life,
I had twelve (12) rounds of chemo I had twelve (12) rounds of radiation.

GOD gave me strength to endure five (5) months of physical therapy one (1) year and three (3) months until my hair grew back. I was HEALED AND CANCER FREE for seven (7) years and I decided to do reconstructive surgery. I made it fifteen (15) years of being cancer free.

January 2016 and I’m on the journey again I took my first round of chemo on February 15, 2016, my second was on April 15, 2015.  I lost my hair two (2) days before my second treatment.

I am Jackie and I'm a SURVIVOR.
